Picked up a 73 Power Wagon *Now with pictures*

Picked up a near pristine stock 73 Power Wagon (Smog exempt here in Ca.) and it needs some upgrades. Drum to disc brakes, thinking about slipping in a 440 ci in place of the 360, winch and some new leafs.

Anyone have a Dodge Forum or info source they would recommend for this era truck?

Here's the pics of the truck I call "Grandpa"
The bent back bumper is the only damage on the truck. I spared you the photo on the 70's green/gold shag carpet that lines the bed.

Great truck. If it were me, I'd leave it alone with the stock components other than the brakes, but it's not mine! You have some great ideas. Did it originally come with a 360? Good luck with the build. :sombrero:

Yes it has the original 360 in it with 125,000 on the clock. It really is in fantastic shape. The fireman who it owned before me kept a repair/maintenance log in sharpie on the inside of the hood. So I know that in 11-78 he replaced belts and hoses for the first time. :sombrero:

My buddy and I played hookey today and took it out to deep sand test it. Went to a wide desert wash with fine deep sand. Make it about 2/3 across before the rears dug in. Went to 4 hi and it walked right out. That was the only time we needed 4X4 in a six hour trip across the desert including the not on a road part. Pretty impressed with it.

If I swap in a 440 I can use it to tow the "TIN CABN" The 360 just doesn't have the umphh for that.

We have an Old Iron run coming up in Feb in the KofA area on the Az/Cali border and it would be great to have you there....just reminding ya :)

And I agree that without pics I don't believe a word of it

Please tell me more...though I am not sure my '93 would count as Old Iron. I would love to attend!

440 is not a bolt in, either. The master cylinder vacuum canister is smaller diameter and longer, wiring loom on the engine changes, motor mounts, trans bellhousing. I'd use a newer engine if I was going to all the hassle, or lower the axle gearing.

Check out Power Wagon Advertiser, too at powerwagonadvertiser.com and you'll be viewing another Dodge specific board.

Motor and trans mounts are the sticker for me. Too bad.

Thanks for the powerwagonadvertiser tip.
