Pop Top Fitment

To those with a Sportsmobile or CCV (Colorado Camper Van) pop top, how is the finish of the top's bottom sealing edge and fitment in the rain gutter? Is it a quality fit? Does the rubber seal sit flush in the rain gutter around the van's roof line? And does anybody have issues with water and gunk sitting in the rain gutter? Or any issues with dust making its way into the pop top?

Please share which top you have and your opinion on the fit and finish in regards to how it sits on the roof.
Thanks

Some sort of lost...
lol

All other issues aside, I love the space of the CCV tops. But I wouldn't buy from him.

Sportsmobile sure isn't perfect either. I put a deposit down on a sportmobile top, because my wife and I are impatient. Otherwise I'd wait until a certain someone here *cough cough* gets his design ironed out and starts producing them. ;) I will surely regret spending money at sportmobile after I see his top completed and installed.

pop top

I'll try to keep this focused on your question. We got our CCV top this summer and have used it a bunch already. Our top fits right inside the rain gutter and is a pretty good fit. We haven't used it or driven in any hard rain or snow yet, so I'm not sure how well it will seal in those conditions.

When the top comes down it isn't always even and it generally needs a nudge on both sides to get the top to go inside the rain gutter instead of on top of it. This problem is probably worse on the extended vans because the top naturally wants to bow out just a little in the middle. But once its inside the gutter it sits down pretty good.

weve had our ccv top since feb of 2013. not installed by ccv though. had a kit shipped here and we installed it ourselves. we stayed in it 28 nights in 2013, 46 nights in 2014, 48 nights in 2015, and 28 nights so far this year. when without friends, we usually camp 2 different places each weekend which is usually more than half our trips. so the top goes up and down twice each weekend. never an issue with up or down and always parks nice and flush on the gutter. it does not go up and down level. front takes longer to rise than rear and reaches gutter last as well, but top always sits nice and flush on gutter before we latch it down. unless we don't stow our crap well of course, lol.

only place in gutter we get buildup is on the rear edge. it just gathers dust. nothing you can do about that unless you never leave pavement. theres no more crap in the gutter than you would have without the top. leakwise, nothing ever. many trips in nasty, windy rain and nothing so far.

all that said, we got one of the last fiberine tops he sold. so what you get now is different. i love the fitment of it personally. its not perfect due to us putting one of the side supports in the wrong spot on passenger side, but other than that little bow out it sits well imho. it will be easy to fix when i get my lazy *** around to it.

Our Top: We had our EB Mid Size CCV top installed by CCV in June of 2015. It was the very first of the mid size tops. We love it, have used it over 60 nights from skiing to desert, and would do it again without any reservations. There are a few things I would change but they have nothing to do with what CCV did on ours. It has to do with lighting options, USB charger up top. These things are now included in their installs.

Fitment: Top comes down on the raised lip of the gutters per the attached pictures. Seals well, no water leaks or wind issues.

The space is amazing inside. From the bed size (54" width, 86" length, 40" headroom) to the actual opening side to side when standing - 52", to the storage over the cab, this top is far better than the SMB top. We have spent a couple of weeks in both RB and EB SMB with pop tops and, from personal experience, the CCV top is superior.

To make an $8K decision, I personally think, seeing and walking around in both tops is well worth the time investment, even if you have to fly someplace to see. If you want to come to San Francisco, I would be happy to show you ours.

This is a Colorado Camper Van High Top on a EB Ford installed about a week and half ago. It was installed on a van we had owned for 13 years and bought by someone near Sacramento. I offered to drive the van out to Loveland and wait for it to be completed. I coordinated with Derek and Matt prior to leaving San Francisco and when I arrived on Monday morning, the lift mechanism and top were ready for install. Start to finish was three full days. I was on my way back to SF on Thursday. The high top performed great on the way back, cruising between 65 and 85 mph. Hit cross winds and headwinds and there was no change in wind noise from the what I noted on the way out (stock roof). Fuel mileage seemed close to what it was on the way out over Hwy 80 and consistent with the range of MPG I experienced over 13 years and 50k miles with this van. I was very pleasantly surprised, as I expected some hit. It was only a couple of tenths, if that.

This install incorporated the latest changes CCV has incorporated over the past year since ours was done. The screens are now all zip down for wide open feeling if desired, the lighting has a second zone over the bed so cabin lights can be on while the two rear lights are off, and a USB charging port is installed at the head of the bed. The finish inside was superb, and on this passenger van the rear air ducting and A/C controls were relocated. Outside was white gel coat to match the white van.

Fitment in the gutters is very good, again, resting on the lip of the gutters like our mid Size top. It does require a slight easy nudge of about 1/4 inch mid span only on the passenger side to sit in the gutter. When the top is down the bulb seal remains in the gutter. The High Top is 19 inches tall from the gutter and has a bit more flair than the mid top. With the three Z-awning brackets installed (they clamp on the gutter), the middle bracket will guide the top right onto the edge of the gutter. Top goes up and down smoothly, level and straight, hold the button or use the remote. No straining of shoulders or neck which I experienced with the SMB manual tops.

The amount of room in a high top when the top is down was incredible! The ability to nearly stand straight up (5' 8" height), stow bags on top of the bed and over the cab with the top down, is simply amazing. The interior volume is the same as our Mid Size with the top up, it is when the top is down that the extra space really shines. If you clearance of the high top is something you can work with, it really is something to consider.
