Pop-Up (Non-Fold-Out) Tent 56" x 70"???

I'm looking for a roof top tent that opens straight up (like the Maggnolia AirLand tent) rather than folding out over the side of the vehicle. The catch is it needs to fit in a 56" x 70" roof rack.

Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

I can see one slight issue.......

70" = 5'8" exterior size.....meaning probably a 5'4" interior usable size.....

I'm guessing there has not been a comercial need for pygmy tents for quite a while:yikes:

So you'll need to look at tents built prior to 1800 AD or from Asia:jump:

No offence meant....just a joke......

and if you could find one it would suit my wife perfectly....as she's only 5":victory:

having a bad day at work......and need some humor

Hmmm...yeah...guess that's not going to work...forgot that I'm 72" tall. hahahaha

Guess I'll have to remove the basket part of the roof rack and mount the roof top tent on the frame. In case you're curious, I'm getting the Wild Boar Fastback Hard Top, Fastback Roof Rack, and the AirLand tent (for a 2008 Jeep JK Unlimited).

I had to Google that top, that is cool looking.
I have never seen one yet on the 4 door Jeeps.

You will like the AirLand.
Taking mine out this holiday for its maiden voyage.

I absolutely LOVE the looks of those tops, and I plan on the full sized rack from Wild Boar myself. However I hope you don't regret the loss of the storage area of the back of your jeep and rack, just for the sake of a good looking package. It really is impractical IMO to just chop it off unless you really don't need it or have a trailer. Plus it moves your racked cargo further front which isn't really the best for load.

I'm going to modify the roof rack so that the AirLand will fit by cutting the rear rail off (it the roof rack rails stick are 3 1/2" tall). By doing this, the AirLand will stick out a few inches in the back, which doesn't bother me. Also, the side rails will offer some protection to the AirLand shell...and I may have those raised up a bit more...will have to see how it looks first.

The only other option would be to take the roof rack basket off and mount the AirLand to the frame of the roof rack, which I don't think would look as good.

It will all be installed on the vehicle by the time I get back to Florida on June 11th (I'm currently in Iraq). If you'd like to see the pictures, you can go to the "Jeep" section of this forum and check out my build thread (From Stock To Stacked...The Story Of A JK).

I won't be loading the rear of the JK to the top in the back, so I won't miss that lost space. While my build is practical, I want a certain "wow" effect as well to help bring attention to the Jeep, and therefore to the WFTW program. There are a few companies interested in having the Jeep in their booth at this year's SEMA show, so that will help as well.

The load of the rack will be minimal since all that will be up there is the roof top tent, which weighs under 100 pounds and will be pretty evenly distributed across the whole rack. People have mounted TONS of stuff on their racks before with no issues (oversized spare tires, tools, gas cans, fold-out roof top tents, etc, etc, etc).

Here's another picture of the hard top (painted to match...mine will be black), and a picture of the roof rack I'm getting.
