Portal Axles?

So im thinking of buying an Iveco Unic with portal axles. I know it isn't a Unimog but you all know more about these things than almost place else on the web.

My question is, should I stay away from these axles? They scare the crap out of me. Seems like when they go wrong they go really wrong! And its not a Unimog so I have no idea where I will get parts to fix or even keep them running.

Am I being overly dramatic?

I know nothing about the Eunic excepted it is aRenault design. If it is used your concerns may be justified about the portals. As far as Iveci is concerned, if you have the money I would buy A new MMV. If you by any vehicle with portal axles check the oil level in all four portals frequently. If want an Iveco with portal axles and have the money I'd buy a new MMV. 13.5 ton gvw, up to 270hp.. If you buy any vehicle with portal axles check the oil level in all four portals frequently. Loss of oil by leaks or pumping oil through the breathers into the center differential is the most common cause of portal failure .

David, It says Unic on the title.... Just sayin'...

And in order to import it has to be 25 years old. So I can't buy anything new. And im limited by budget and what is available on the market
