Possible Tundra Diesel in 2017

I actually think it will be a hard sell. The big three have loyal buyers in the class 3 market, and big volume sales for fleet type trucks are sold at real competitive prices. Not sure Toyota will compete on price, or get past the stigma of being light duty.

My original link is almost a year old, but I guess it had some legs to it. I like the idea, but there is no way in hell I could ever justify getting one new or even a few years old. For me, and this is me, not everyone else, I just don't have the need. Anything I do or tow could be done with a gas engine. If things changed at my house, and we added a kiddo, I might be inclined to sell my Tacoma and get a Tundra, but it would probably be a used Gasser that someone sold to get a diesel.
The cost of new nicely equipped vehicles is staggering, adding the cost of a diesel would put it over the top.

Great article...I wish Toyota would bring the 4.5L V-8 turbodiesel from Aussie.

I don't see that happening, figure it would be a different motor designed from the get-go for the North American market and our current/future emissions considerations.

Though I wonder if DieselToyz ever actually did that 4.5L conversion they were planning? I heard they had the motor, but I don't see any updates about it on their site...

The 4.5L V8 in the Landcruiser will have to meet Euro6 standards sooner than later- These are very close to what we have in the US. I doubt they will integrate SCR into the 200 series, and just not sell anything built after the 1st of this month, where they have to comply with Euro6. The 300 series is due any day. Likewise, I wouldn't expect any new powertrain integration before the new Turdra platform rolls out. The 1VD is still pretty new, and Toyota will want to keep it around for longer investment return.
