I'm thinking about buying the Pro Comp ES9000 lift kit for my Wrangler. Before I do, I was wondering if this is a good kit.

Here are a couple things I'm hopping to get out of the kit.

-Good ride quality that is just as smooth as stock. I don't want it to be any firmer. Right now with the stock set up it rides pretty smooth.

-Reliable. I plan on doing a lot of overlanding.

I run Rancho RS9Ks on most of my jeeps but they are far feomstick and see more rough stuff than you plan. I find the adjustability handy when going from road to rocks. But for you.. I couldn't justify the expense. Id even say the PC ES9ks may be pricy for no reason. Depending on your level of difficulty for trails you plan to encounter. Just stick with a quality replacement one... Gas if your mostly on road and hydraulic if more slow off road is expected.. Just my thoughts.

Honestly, I would stay away from ProComp and stick to an AEV lift or an Off Road Evolution lift if your planning on doing alot of offroad driving and want a product you can have complete faith in. These two companies really put alot of work and testing into their products. ProComp is great for the pavement princess or Bi-annual wheeler. Just my $.02 though.

I'd recommend bilstein shocks and a teraflex 2.2" kit for 33" up to 35" tires, and add in a daystar .75" front space to keep it level. It provides an incredible ride and good flex, even better if you add arms to the kit later.

So, do you want shocks or a complete lift? Because ES9000 is just a shock model, not a lift. Regardless, they are junk and should be avoided.

That's just a dumb statement. I run pro comp 9000's on my astro and they work perfectly. They are made by tenneco, same manufacturer as Monroe and rancho, but they are nitrogen charged instead of cellular gas like the rancho 5000's. That makes them better on heavier vehicles, whereas the pro comp 3000's are the same as the rancho and ideal for light rigs like yjs and tjs.

Yes, and I speak from experience, used them(tried anyway) and the valving was crap. My current setup uses Teraflex 9550 shocks that were engineered for the JK and they work perfectly due to similar weight.

But you are comparing an application specific shock to a generic shock. Compare the Tera flex shocks to custom kings and you could say the same thing. For the money they are better than the ranchos or other generics, but I have ridden in the jk with 9000's and they aren't bad at all, but listens are better for double the price. Everything is relative.

What's your budget for the lift and what do you intend to use it for?

Well, I was going to get a spacer lift to go along with the shocks. My budget is about $800 on shocks. I was looking at the Fox shocks but they seem to be overkill and a waste of money for what I intend on using them for.

I'll just be doing some overlanding/expedition rides once or twice a month. I just want to have a smooth quality ride with a 2.5 inch lift.

Then go the route I recommended, for about your budget avoid the spacers, go the teraflex 2.5" spring lift and bilstein shocks and you will love the ride and flex for what you intend to use it for. I can supply the part numbers if.you want them and shop it around for best price, and can even give you a quote if you like for an idea of what you should be paying for the parts.

Here you go then, http://www.teraflex.biz/2-5-jk-lift-kit-w-shocks-2-dr.html You will not be disappointed.

Well, having killed a few ES9000 shocks I'd say look at the Bilstein or OME. They ride better and last longer. I'm not hardcore rock crawler either, I just live in a city with *******ty streets and the pot holes just did the ES9000's in. (I actually broke one in half)
