Problems programming a Yaesu VX-xx radio?

The last time I programmed my radios I was using an XP machine (extra laptop, had it for programming radios and but since got rid of it). Now that I'm trying to program radios with a Win7 machine, I'm having issues. After some digging, it appears that there were counterfit chips/drivers that worked with XP but not with Win7: http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=225&pcid=41

I'm wondering if this is the case for me. I tried installing an older version of the driver but it doesn't work and Win7 likes to update it to the latest version.

Does anyone own Yaesu radios in the VX family and program with a Win7 computer? What cable are you using? I can't remember when I bought my cables; maybe 2012/2013.

This one uses an entirely different chipset and the seller is USA based so may be a good option: https://www.amazon.com/Valley-Enterprises®-Yaesu-Programming-VX-170/dp/B002YUJ1JA/ref=cm_wl_huc_item

I'm open to suggestion. I'm using CHIRP, VX7 Commander and VX2 Commander software.

Thanks!

I use the RT Systems cable. Works fine with Windows 7. They use FTDI chips, genuine as well. FTDI is pretty on top of bricking fakes with their drivers, which can be kind of a PITA. I have one PL2303-based adapter, a generic USB-serial adapter that seems real since it works fine.

I use VX7 Commander for programming software.

I'm programming a VX-7r with Commander and ttl2usb. I initially had a problem with Win7. Control Panel >Hardware and Sound >Device Manager >Ports >USB Serial Port >Port Settings

Changing Bits per second from 9600 to 4800 worked. Maybe faster would work but 4800 worked and I stopped messing with it.

I may have played with the write delay in Commander as well. Settings >Port under the "!" button. It is at 17.
