Propane tank storage

So I don't like the idea of caring the propane in my Jeep, so I decided to fab something up for outside carry.
I bought a used rugged ridge Off-Road Jack Mount, 07-10 Wrangler, Textured Black 11586.01, cut off the top brackets, and then got a 4x4 and a 1" piece of wood to set in where the jack would go. I used some conduit brackets to attach a 11lbs propane tank to the 1" piece of wood, and then used 2 long bolts to attach it to the 4x4 and the carrier. I looked for metal strap to attach to the carrier and around the tank, but couldn't find any so I am going to use some ratcheting straps for now, and wrap it behind the carrier to make sure it does not go anywhere. It is nice and tucked in behind the tire so I think it should be pretty safe. Still have some work on it but thought I would share. Open to improvement ideas as I continue.

I gotta ask... Why NOT mount it inside? It seems like a rear end accident could end up much worse if that puppy goes BOOM!

That is very clever setup, though. ;)

Thanks. Explosions from the impact shouldn't be any worse than any other compressed gas, so my bigger concern for an accident would be a spark that catches fire. As for the inside, propane tanks can leak or vent gas on very hot days, so if it does leak then I have propane filling up my vehicle which could be toxic to the occupants.
From the national library of medicine: Propane is a colorless and odorless flammable gas. Breathing in or swallowing propane can be harmful. Propane takes the place of oxygen in the lungs and makes breathing difficult or impossible.:Wow1:

So it is just my preference to keep it outside for longer periods of travel. I really like AT's setup for carrying propane as it sits higher, but this is what I came up with for now.

outside is a good idea, but it also leaves it up for some eventual crackhead to try something funny.

ive seen some mounted on top(or back) of the cab on some pickups, though one may want to add a plate between it and said cab.
