Qbombs TJ and Trailer Build

I've been cruising the site and thought I'd start a build thread. I was into rock crawling at first but thanks to a member of our jeep club (and a member on this forum) I have found the wonders of overland travel. I still plan to rock crawl but I have switched my build to more of an expedition rig. It is currently sitting like this:

I'm waiting on my tire carrier to be delivered. I also purchased a M416 as an off-road trailer for my travels with my GF and 2 dogs.

2006 TJ Sport, quite a few mods.

I love the wheels, the hard part will be finding 2 more for my trailer.

Got the trailer home today. My friend pulled it home since the delivery for my bumper was delayed.

Nice score on the trailer, looks to be all there. Is the parking brake there/functional?
I'm on the search for a single moab for my trailer as well if you happen to find a set and want to sell just one.

Thanks guys! Bfr, if I find a set I'll keep you in mind. The parking brake is there but I'm not sure if it's functional yet. It looks to be pretty complete. It's needs some TLC but it's not too far gone. I can't wait to get started on fixing it up and towing it.

I have a question for those who tow a trailer and have a heavier full size spare, heavier bumper and aftermarket tire carrier. With the spare tire, the appropriate bumper and tire carrier you can be adding a noticeable amount or weight behind the axle. This is basically what would be considered "tongue weight". I believe the max tongue weight for a TJ is 200lbs. A full size spare, new heavy duty bumper and carrier could weigh over 100lbs.

Those that tow with a heavier componets attached to your jeep (behind the axle) do you figure in this extra tongue weight? Do you move the spare tire to the trailer? To an extent you can counter by the way you load the trailer but that added carrier, bumper and tire is probably eating up more than half the maximum tongue weight.

So far it's an easy tear down, mostly surface rust. None of the bolts were too hard to remove.

Led blinkers wired up. Used an ep26 flasher to fix the blinker cycle.

Also started pressure washing the trailer.

While I think that extra weight behind the axle (or anywhere else) needs to be taken into account/ corrected for, I do not equate it with additional tongue weight.

Note that a tongue weight rating that is10% of the tow weight rating is pretty common across manufacturers and vehicle types. To some extent you could argue that tongue weight and that 10% rule has more to do with trailer behavior (limiting sway at speed) while the overall tow weight rating has more to do with the ability to control the trailer while braking/steering.

Jeeps, especially SWB models, can generally get much more weight moving than they can control or stop.

It may not change the way the trailer behaves but it will on how the Jeep behaves.
