Okay I found a pretty rough interior Gen III at a dealership that was destioned for auction. I have a question is the Gen III one of those cars that has a Check Engine light and a Service Engine Soon light? Just wondering because I could get a hell of a deal on it if so. Might talk my wife into the rough interior, needs a drivers side front sear leather tan.

All vehicles have a check engine/ses light. You must mean a maintenance required or oil change light. It doesn't have that.

Yeah I had a friend who had an Oldsmobile Alero that had a Check engine light and a Service engine soon light, the Service engine was for oil or other products and the Check engine was for Error codes. I was just checking if the Monty had the same or not.

The Gen III does not have scheduled maintenance "timers," but will assign codes to either "check engine" or "service engine soon" depending upon what sort of code it is. For example, if you don't tighten the gas cap all the way it will come up with a SES light since the computer knows that it's not a serious fault.

If looking at a vehicle with idiot lights on, a code reader will be your best friend.

The 02 had a "Service Engine Soon" light it read it out, I did not see the Engine symbol at all. And I didn't have a code reader on me.

My '01 also is doing this, possibly because of a new intake and the MAF going crazy. No engine icon and no other issues while running. When I get a code reader I will check it out but I haven't been worried. No issues from it at all, even when I push it to 6k rpm. It is also probably a check for getting the oil/routine maintenance that needs to be reset.

I bet the service engine soon light is simply a scheduled maintenance reminder triggered at predefined mileages while a check engine light or that engine logo will come on when something triggers an actual error code which you would read using a code reader.
