Question about MaxTrax

Long story short.. I am working near Roswell, NM, with a Yamaha Rhino, and am getting stuck at least 6 to 10 times a day. Looking to buy something to make getting unstuck way easier and quicker then winching and pull-pal ing... (not that theres anything wrong with that, just saying)... anyhow, question is, does anyone or has anyone mounted MaxTrax on a Rhino or similar UTV? Just trying to figure out how they will ride without being loose and bouncing around.

I used their mounting pin set http://www.maxtrax.com.au/mtxmps - but not on a Rhino sorry. Suits their MkII version only apparently. Dimensions required are down the page on that link - see if it suits. Now I didn't try this for real, but I swear those pins will also hold the tracks in place if used through the handle grip holes (slots) - not as tight, but if you need to have them closer together...

The pin setup itself is excellent. I used a regular padlock, not a wire one, as below; needed to file off a bit of the nylon to have it lock, but that's no loss. If you're using them frequently you wouldn't want to lock them, and you don't have to, to have them stay put.

The pin set mounts them to any flat surface and many other places that are individual to each vehicle. They are available in the US at Sierra Expeditions, Southeast Ocerland, and Expedition Ops retailing for about $26.99.

Had a new set of MaxTrax for one day, and allready put em to good use. Cuts my self recovery time from 30 min to 3 min. Thanks for a great product.

So I found a horribly sticky mud pit today, and the Maxtrax really, really helped me out today. I ended up getting out in reverse. We are averaging 6 "stucks " a day out here.

One of the reason you are getting stuck: The stock Rhino tires need an upgrade!! A tire with more tread bite and something a little wider will give you better flotation in the mud. Adding the spacers will give you more lateral stability also. So when you drop that one side down into teh mud, you won;t feel like your going to flip it over.

Between spacers and tire swap, my last Rhino became much more capable and stable over stock. In fact the stock tires only lasted me a couple weeks before I lost the front one's sidewall.

...hope this may help you enjoy your rig a little a more.

I totally agree. I had an 07 Rhino that had a better everything, yet was carborated, and can NOT take the 110 degree heat and horrible terrian we are in. So I had to buy a brand new fuel injected Rhino last week, which I have allready trashed, but the Fuel Injection is allowing it to not overheat. (trust me on this one). As soon as I get paid for this job (which is totally breaking me), I will put more armor, wy better tires, a Montana Jacks winch mount, a 4000 pound Warn UTV winch, among other things. Most people, like, 99.99 percent, cannot fathom the conditions we are working in, trashing another Rhino is just a cost of the job I guess, however sad...

Well, aside from the full time fireman-paramedic thing, I have a forestry contracting buisness. I work a TON in the spring and summer contracting with the forest service, BLM, US Fish and Wildlife, ect. (I do shift trades and pretty much burn all my vaction from fire every season). Then, in the winter, my side buisness shuts down and I work double shifts at fire dept all winter. So yes, I am pretty darn busy. As far as WHAT I actually do, well, planting trees, (usually cottonwoods), control burns, illegal dump clean ups, building fences, specias inventory, hazard tree removal, whatever needs to be done that my tiny company can handle. Mostly what I do is Riparian Area restoration. Right now we are along the Pecos River spraying Salt Cedar (Tamarisk), after a gigantic excavator ripped out all the mature plants. So we are basically in logging slash and huge excavator ruts. We have been all over the SW doing salt cedar control, It is definaltly a huge battle.., Most of the time I have to very self-sufficiant, and totally realiant on my wits and my equipment to succed. I am very lucky on this job to have cell service and internet!!! :)

Here is a link to my forestry stuff on smugmug if interested. The Colorado pics are cool (to me at least ) :) http://treefireguy.smugmug.com/Other/Forestry-Contracting-Stuff/16955307_n3DgP5
