Hi, i have spent a number of years thinking about getting an expedition/adventure car for short and long family/friend journeys. I have no prior experience on 4x4 vehicles so I need some advice how to get "into the field". At first I wanted a Land Rover, but I have realized that i'm a "Toyota guy" (prioritizing reliability and comfort).
Ideally I'd get a second hand vehicle with few km's. I want a heavy duty vehicle that I can rely on and for many years as well as modify from time to time. Looking into the second hand market in Sweden where i live isn't too fun: it's mostly expensive/executive vehicles on sale (driven in the city?!).
Probably I'd want a diesel LC90, LC100, LC120 or LC150. It would really be super nice to find an older model with few km's, but soo far I haven't seen one.
So please feel free to give me some advice on a model that gives most vehicle per dollar spent (and then I really count over a long time periode).
What about the automatic vs. manual transmission? I would think that automatic is more of a hassle to repair if you are out in nowhere in, say, Africa. But almost every LC I see are automatic. Are automatic reliable for expedition?
Please point out more things too think about before buying, like brakes, AC, AUX tank... I.e. things that are smart to plan for before buying.
Thanks alot, any help is much appreciated!
