Question on Garmin Nuvi 1450

Hey guys, I use a Trimble GPS unit almost every day at work land surveying, but have never used a handheld or vehicle GPS... so consider me a newbie.

I'm looking at buying a Garmin Nuvi 1450 and using the gpsfiledepot.com topo downloads, and noticed that the instructions for downloading say that you add these topos to your GPS using "MapSource".

Question: Is MapSource a program for my PC that I need to purchase in order to upload topos etc into the Nuvi?... or do I just buy the Nuvi, download the topo file, plug the Nuvi into the PC and rock?

Thanks.

On the gpsfiledepot site, after you choose which map you want, you'll see a link that says "Need Mapsource? Click here". If you click on the link you will be able to download Mapsource. It is a free download and yes, you will need it to install the maps on your GPS (or else get a copy of Basecamp).

Since yuo have the 1450... can you save a route in Street & trips or other software and export it to the GPS?

I have the nuvi 255w and it won't (bummer) but we have soem fun trips in mind on the computer and wanted to upload them.

I don't have the 1450 yet, but I think MapSource will let you plan a trip route and then transfer that into the GPS.

...I think.
