questions about 315/75/r16 spare under 01' 4runner

Does anyone have any more information about putting a 315/75/r16 spare under a 3rd gen 4runner?

I've seen what was done here:
http://www.sonoransteel.com/thirtyfive.html

I contacted Sonoran steel about making me one of these but they would need the truck at their shop; and AZ is a long way from MD. I'm thinking of trying to get some plans together to build my own.

Thoughts or other input?

If Steve (Sonoran Steel) can make one from any 3rd gen, I can take him mine and then he can ship the parts to you. I know he has sold his, that is why he has to have a vehicle for everythign. If intrested and he can. let me know.

Well actually, I got a little confused. I emailed Randy Ellis instead (since he built the one in the picture), and that is who told me they could build it but would need a 4runner with the body lift.

I'm not too familiar with Arizona to know if the two shops are even remotely close to each other.

But I did just send off an email to Sonoran Steel about the fabrication.

Randy is about 25 minutes from Steve.

What kind of bumper do you have? Do you have a body lift?

If I remember correctly, Steve ended up using a same diameter but much thinner spare tire, so as to reduce the amount it hung down below.

I'm pretty sure Steve built the bumper and Randy Ellis built the replacement rear crossmember that tucks up higher to take advantage of the 1.5" body lift.

The pictures on the Sonoran Steel page for his bumpers are of my 4Runner...this will give you an idea on how low it hangs with a 1.5" BL and a new rear crossmember Steve built to take advantage of the BL. I have a full size 315/75-16 Goodyear MT/R tucked under there.

Well that's perfect because that's the exact size tire I'm running. I have a custom done bumper that gives as much room as there is to give underneath and a modified exhaust. I only have a 1 inch bl but that would feasably mean the tire would only hang half an inch lower than pictured.

Would you want to have your 4runner test fitted with Randy Ellis?

Well for anyone interested, Steve from Sonoran Steel just sent me this:

"I have built many of these and I have all the specs already. *The problem is that we are booked solid for the next 30 days. *If you can wait 3-4 weeks I can do it. *Cost is time and materials, $50.00 an hour and I remember it being 3 hours or so.

Let me know

Steve"

I'm going to have this built as soon as he can fit me in the schedule.
