I'm looking at a 2010 Tacoma crew cab 4x4 w/TRD Offroad . Anything bad I should know about these trucks ? Reliability or quality control problems ? Also anybody have some Tacoma websites I can check out to get info ?
My wife just got a new 4Runner Trail Edition so its my time now .
Also does anybody know about any changes for the 2011 Tacoma ?

I have an 09 Tacoma access cab and it is a great truck. www.tacomaworld.com is one of the better sites tailored to taco owners. It is a busy site. No real problems with the taco but I will say two of your first mods should be to get weathertech digifit mats and also do the tailgate anti-theft mod (hoseclamp).

Yes, they are tickers. Did not get the TRD because in a long bed you don't get the locking rear diff.
My only complaint is that the gas gauge is way off.
When it is way past "E", there is still 5 gallons left in the tank.

I bought an 06 when they changed body style and absolutely loved it. Only problem was I love 15 inch wheels and big old tires unfortunately Tacoma caliper are very big and those nice procomp black wheels that I ordered from a warehouse in Florida didn't.

Don't have the truck anymore but I regret ever ever ever getting rid of it. Also if you go with Toyota tow package at least back then the Tacoma had a 6500 towing capacity. Towed a 21 foot toy hauler with 4 seater sand rail 2 quads and a quad in the bed of truck I wish I new where the disk was with the pics. I loved it.

Yes, the 1GR-FE is famous for it's distinctive sound but dont let that fool you - it's a beast IMO.

I disagree on the TRD package though - if you want a long bed (6ft vs 5ft) and arent concerned about the locker, you will be concerned about the seats. The SR5 and TRD seats are VERY different and well worth the upgrade IMO.

Gas gauge? Yep, way off but no big deal.

Mine has over 70,000 on my 2005 now, a good portion of it on 2 to 3+ rated trails, with no major issues to complain about.

YMMV.

I guess I will be the dissenting voice here...I just sold my 05 Taco and am happy to be rid of it. Mechanically it was fine. It made a funny noise at start up, something the dealer could never fix, but other than that I had no major mechanical problems. It was the little things that left a bad taste in my mouth. Things like the drivers side arm rest that broke, window vibration horror noise, the easily dented metal bed, frame rusting problems(luckily I did not have this one on my truck) and the tail gate that is designed to only support 225 lbs. Heck I can barely sit on that and drink a beer.

I think the Taco would make a fine vehicle that is not used as a truck, but rather a platform to build and overland vehicle. However if you use it like a truck, i.e. hauling ATV's in the bed, carrying things other than luggage in the bed, or things like that, you should look at other vehicles.

All that said I just picked up a 2006 Tundra and it is much more to my liking. Good Luck with your next purchase and enjoy whatever it is you end up with...

Taco Seat Height - Line of Sight

I'm 6' tall.... 6'1" if I stand up straight...So I went and sat in a new Taco and my line of sight was right at the top of the windshield. When I asked the salesman if the seat would go DOWN, he directed me to a knob on the side of the seat which raised and lowered the front of the seat. This raised and lowered my knees, but did not raise or lower my line of sight which was still at the top of the windshield.

OK, do I have an exceptionally long (tall) spine and really short legs? Should I join the circus or is an issue others have experienced (enjoyed or endure) in the 2010 Taco?
