I guess I will be the dissenting voice here...I just sold my 05 Taco and am happy to be rid of it. Mechanically it was fine. It made a funny noise at start up, something the dealer could never fix, but other than that I had no major mechanical problems. It was the little things that left a bad taste in my mouth. Things like the drivers side arm rest that broke, window vibration horror noise, the easily dented metal bed, frame rusting problems(luckily I did not have this one on my truck) and the tail gate that is designed to only support 225 lbs. Heck I can barely sit on that and drink a beer.
I think the Taco would make a fine vehicle that is not used as a truck, but rather a platform to build and overland vehicle. However if you use it like a truck, i.e. hauling ATV's in the bed, carrying things other than luggage in the bed, or things like that, you should look at other vehicles.
All that said I just picked up a 2006 Tundra and it is much more to my liking. Good Luck with your next purchase and enjoy whatever it is you end up with...
