Observer
I picked up a North Carolina Delorme Atlas and Gazetteer the other day at the book store and was disappointed to find that it seemed much less detailed than the others I have (VA, TN). It seems as if they have made it more of a road map and has less detailed on the small 4wd trails, forest roads, etc. There is quite a bit on the USGS topo maps that isn't in this one compared to the others.
If I were to find an older copy of the NC Atlas would it have more detail like my other maps? Different scale? Maybe their target market doesn't care about those things anymore, IDK?
Also, on a side note, I'm finding it harder and harder to find maps of any sort in stores anymore. I guess with the popularity of GPS they have gone by the wayside, which I think is ashamed. Most of my generation (I'm 27) are all enamored by modern technology with smart phones, GPS, etc. Most of them can't function without those things anymore. Nowadays I leave my GPS at home and take nothing more than a map and a compass when ever I travel, explore, 'wheel etc. Maybe I'm off my rocker, but it just seems more fun and exciting that way.
