Questions, thoughts, and opinions about possible new to me trailer

We'll I'm on the verge of either starting a trailer build from scratch or buying something that's already built and modifying it to make it my own. I've been searching around locally and stubbled upon the trailer seen below. There are definitely some things I'd change and add to make the trailer what I would want it to be but it seems like a really good start for the price. I'm a toyota guy and would want to get rid of the axle, wheels, and tires so I could swap in a toyota axle, 17" wheel, and 35's to match my 4runner. Along with adding fenders and re-working the front a little. Anyway I guess my question is what are you thoughts and opinions about this trailer based on the description and pictures and do you think I'd be getting a good deal on it for the asking price of $1350??? All thoughts opinions and idea's are welcomed.

Description as it is listed on Craigslist:

It currently has an old set of 39.5-13.50-15 IROKS and black steelies with matching spare on it to match my LJ. You can put a smaller matching tire on it if you want to pull it level with a smaller Jeep on smaller tires.

The axle is a quality tractor supply axle with 5 on 4.5" TJ bolt pattern.

It is built out of .120" wall square tubing of several different sizes. It is all steel with a custom 3 link suspension with RE joints and bushings on stock TJ rear coils with a TJ swaybar and discos, and has MX6 adjustable shocks.

It has a top (not shown in pics) that is beveled about 6" in to match the bottom and lifts up and out of the way. The rear tailgate also swings down for access to the back. It has 4" round LED tail lights.

The front of the trailer is a double walled ice chest that was Linexed and foamed for insulation. It has a drain plug and is water tight when the lid is down. The ice chest holds about 7 cases of beer and 70lbs of ice. Above the icechest is a storage compartment for tools, axles, parts, etc.

One of the coolest things about the trailer is the hitch setup.
It is a spindle/bushing combination that swivels in any direction so it can follow your Jeep anywhere without coming loose. Also if the trailer were to roll your Jeep would be not because of the spindle.

Am no trailer expert by any means... but if you think that trailer will do what you're looking for... it appears to be in pretty good shape, and for 1350, the price doesn't seem to off the wall. If that was up here (or close) I'd definitely be snagging it.

Do you really need to change the axle, or just the hubs? I'd think worst case scenario, you use and adapter to the current hubs. I use these guys and have been very happy with their products: http://www.ezaccessory.com/ There's more to buying adapters than meets the eye though and I'd call them and make sure you get the right ones.

Couple comments. I'd guess that those springs are pretty firm for a trailer that size. These firm springs will limit sway. This given, the sway bar is probably doing more harm than good. I'd test the trailer without the sway bar and see if there is any noticeable roll. I'd bet dollars to donuts that you would be much better off without. We don't need "flex" in a trailer suspension. We need controlled (with the use of shocks and springs) shock absorption. The sway bar most likely makes the trailer rider harder than it needs to as it limits travel for shock absorption.

Over all that thing is SWEET! and at the price is a steal. You could get some good dough for those tires and should more than cover some new to you size tires and wheels that you need.

I don't really need the axle but I was thinking it would be nice to have spare axle shafts and a spare third member in an emergency. But either way thanks for the link as it may be the way I decide to go.

Thanks for the advice. If I pick this thing up I'll be sure to start a build/re-build thread for more input.
