Quick Question on YJ's

Just inherited a 95 back from the college kid due to rising gas prices. When the other kid removed the doors to be cool this week, the battery went flat.

Any ideas, yes I did check the dome light switch and it is off.

Theres a plunger thingy (technical term) on door jamb that gets depressed when the door is closed turing off the interior dome light. Disconnect the wiring to this when doors are off.

I think I just unscrewed the screw holding the switch/plunger, put a piece of tape around the screw, then screwed it back in, and the tape disconnected the ground.

On the YJ, all you have to do is reach around behind the switch. The wires attach to the switches with basic 1/4 male push terminals. The drivers door (when stock) has two wires to it. One is interior lights, the other is the buzzer. I've removed the buzzer wire on every YJ I've had and never hooked it back up. The passenger side, if a 6-cylinder, or a highly optioned 4-cylinder will have a single connecter on the back of the switch.

They are as simple as pull to remove.

On many YJs- the aftermarket alarm installers of the era added switches to the tailgate and the hood. This likely isn't your problem, but thought I'd mention it. I had a battery go dead on a YJ once because my 32 inch tire stressed the tailgate mounted tire mount enough to pull it away from the pin switch enough to close the circuit. I had no interior lights in the Jeep at the time... and it took me a couple weeks to figure that one out.
