Rack on Cap

Good day
Please stop putting the stake up and collecting fire wood for have a jeep guy asking questions in the Toyota group. I swear I love the tacos but until the wife corolla is paid off I can't get the truck.

I have a Comanche with a topper on it. I want to build a roof rack mainly to hold the lights and possibly the high lift and shovel on it.

I am concerned about drilling holes, mounting the rack and the cap holding it. What way is the best to attach the rack to the cap or am I better off building a exo to the bed rails. keep in mind the cap is 22 years old and to the best of my looking around no one builds a caps for them anymore.

Thanks for the help

What's the cap made of? Mine is galvanized sheet metal and an aluminum rack.

On my old truck, I mounted short sections of raingutter rails. From Yakima, maybe 6" long. Towers mount to the rails. Two screws per piece. Rubber gasket included. Never noticed a leak from the holes. From the seam between the cap and bed rails? Oh ya you betcha. I transported my canoe (65-70lbs) on that rack to and from Jackson Hole 5 or 6 times over a couple summers. No problems.

I mounted some Yakima rails on my fiberglass top.

I searched and searched and found very little useful info or pictures so I took the jump and went ahead and did it. If your fiberglass top has any sections on the inside that look to be thicker try and drill your holes through that. Also, try and mount them as far towards the outside as you can so that the weight isn't in the middle but instead stretched out towards the side (does that make sense?). Once you make the first hole it gets easier. I have a set of Thule artificial rain gutters that I was going to mount on mine, but I went with these instead:

I like being able to adjust the rails instead of them being stationary. PM me if you're interested in the artificial rain gutters though, still have them new in box.

I was all set to mount a ladder rack on my ranger when it got totalled. It fit under the camper shell and sat on the bed rails. The verticals went around the shell...
