RAM MOUNT Suction Mount

Does anyone have any experiences with the suction cup mounts from RAM MOUNT?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount my GPS (Garmin 60CSx) in my FJ62. I've tried 3 different mounts already, that have all ultimately failed. The shape and contours of the FJ62 dash make it hard to mount the GPS in the spot where I think it needs to be (so it's easily visible, but not blocking vents, or the radio, or the heat / A/C controls). I have always been weary of suction cup type mounts because I know a guy that had my same GPS, and used a suction cup mount that let go, and his GPS dropped right on to the shifter, and shattered his screen.

Yes and I am a believer.

I usually have a hate on for suction cup mounts because others I have owned all failed. The RAM suction mount is spectacular. Thousands of miles offroad, thousands more on and zero failures.

I make it a point to reset the suction cup every few weeks or after a particularly nasty section of washboard, but again ZERO failures.

My only sort of warning. I do watch it closely at very low temps. For example, if it's -20C outside and I blast the hot defroster it has loosened but again no failures.

Remember that Suction Cup mounts are illegal in some states.

I have a RAM Suction Cup mounts and it works just fine, but I thought it blocked too much of my view.

I have both my Garmin 60's mounted on the Ram-A-Can mount and it uses the Cup Holder. Works great and easy to remove.

You don't have to use a can between the two parts. The top will fit in the bottom with a little effort. I also use the short arm between the GPS mount and the ram-a-can for angle adjustment.

I have a RAM suction cup mount that I use with my Magellan Triton. It works but it's nothing special. It you keep your windshield clean and mount it on a flat surface, it works great just like any other suction cup.

It's not like RAM has some super sticky rubber that no one else has. I've used suction cup mounts from a variety of vendors such as Navman, Pharos, Garmin and Navigon and they all work about the same. The best (strongest) suction cup I have is a "no name" suction mount for a video camera. It's lasted better than the RAM.

RAM suction mount has worked well for me.

I have a few too many gadgets and ended up bending some 3/4" sch40 pipe to follow the dash contours. RAM u-bolt mounts provide the mount points. Allows for greater flexibility in mounting location and is pretty solid. I have it bolted to a couple stock bolts above the kick panels. Using pipe insulation for vibrations and a little human cushioning. At various times I may have combos of- tablet PC, 60csx, hand-held 2m radio, ipod, phone- mounted.

I use a ram suction mount (with the on/off switch) to hold my RAM 60C mount and universal ipod/cellphone holder on a custom aluminum plate. Holds really well off road. Only time its ever fell off the window was sitting in the sun in the yard? Strange.
