Hey guys, so I got this random engine sputter all of a sudden and its becoming more and more frequent. Last time this happened it was because during a water crossing the ignition control module got water in it. We hit the trails the other day, but I was careful about the water fording this time and don't think I got water up in there.
The curious thing is that the check engine light hasn't come on yet, so I'm thinking it's not a misfire. Someone who shall not be named did run my precious truck all the way down to fumes the other day, though. I threw some fuel system cleaner in it and a full tank of gas (Shell 87) and have gone through a quarter tank and the issue is persisting. I'm hoping it's just gunk working through? Thoughts, ideas for me to check?
Also, I have this random starting issue that has really manifested itself lately. Turn the key to the start position, and nothing whatsoever happens. Not even a click. I'm wondering if it's some sort of neutral/park safety sensor switch or something. But I'm open to ideas on that as well. The only way to get the truck to start is to just keep trying and eventually it'll crank. When it does crank, there's no issue there. I've got an Optima Yellow Top in it, so there's no lack of power, and the battery gauge shows "awesome". Thoughts?
Thanks for your time oh trusted colleagues of the league of Montero operators.
