Raptor/Baja style package for Ram available now from MOPAR

This doesn't make sense to me. Nothing against this style of truck but if imitation is flattery then SVT should be feeling good. Here's my gripe, price. Take a 1500 Ram then add all that kit on it. Now look at the price of a Raptor, ready to go, right off the showroom floor, turn key. My prediction is that some diehard Ram/Mopar fans will pony up for it but it will never be nearly as popular as the Raptor. I personally think Mopar should stick to what they are historically known for, muscle car performance and not muddle with the 4wd market, dilluting their image. Just my opinion, but a Moparized 4wd whether a Dodge, or especially a Jeep is kinda cheesy.

The big difference is the 5 link rear and coils
Dodge avoided the "lane and a half width" factor also.

I sat in the Raptor at the Auto Show here and felt like I was in a Hummer. Where's the driver side grab handle?

Hopefully,Dodge will offer these factory prepped and priced under the Ford.

People want that factory warranty when they're shelling out the big bucks.

According from a "source" I was talking to at the unveiling of this, it will be sold as a Mopar kit. That means after shelling out the coin for the kit itself, you have to either install it yourself or pay to have it done. I heard a number in the high $50's thrown around for what it would cost thus my concern over how they can expect people to deal with that over a Raptor.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Raptor an Ram-Runner, but you could buy an F150 or Ram 1500 right now for under 30k new easily and make a more capable/better truck for less than the extra 25g for the "special" packages

I think you are bang on for this kit... but,

Jeep + Mopar = capable jeep with lots of power (upper 40, hemi TJ/JKs, grand cherokee hemi's) and does that mean the Power Wagon is cheesy as well?

i just feel the raptor and this ram runner are packages for people who want the look and capability but have no idea what they are doing, i have experience in the "baja" world and i feel i could build a much more capable truck and keep it in the same price range, its not for everyone, as they say they are aiming for the hard core offroad-er's but i feel they are aiming at the wrong market. they should be aiming for those "mall-crawlers" with big pockets. ive got quite a few of them in my neighborhood

While there are those who buy Raptors for mall crawlers, there are plenty of folks who DO use them off-road, myself included. As for the cost, a 2011 XLT extended cab 4x4 w/ 5.0L and no options is about $35k. A Raptor with no options is $42k. The FX4 that is most closely equipped like the Raptor is right at $40k. $7k will not go very far towards bigger tires, flared fenders (even if you skip the paint), the 6.2 engine, the upgraded suspension (esp shocks) and the Raptor is the only truck Ford offers where you can turn off all of the nannies (stability / traction control & ABS) and keep the rear locker locked at any speed (all others unlock @ 25 or 15 mph - Power Wagon included, depending on transfer case selection)

Simple solution.

PowerWagon

More capability, less to mod.

Capability is a very qualitative thing. Both are great trucks right off of the dealer lot. The Raptor does pretty well in the rocks as long as the width doesn't get you (not quite as well as the Power Wagon - but better than most people think) but does much better at speed (with in the Raptor's capabilities - it is not a trophy truck). Also, the extra 16" of wheel base for the Power Wagon would have put me in a couple of situations I could not have gotten out on tight trails. But the PW can haul and tow a lot more.
