Really want a generation 2.5 Montero, but will I fit?

It looks like the 98-2000 Monteros don't have a ton of driver legroom, any tall guys behind the wheel? If so, how tall are you, what's your inseam and comfort level? I've got a line on 99 that I really want, but it is over two hours away, a I don;t want to waste half a day if it won't fit me. As a second question, are these trucks reasonably good on the highway? I commute a fair amount and sometimes put on 500 miles a week on the highway. I don't want to deal with something that is going to be a bear to handle and really loud.

I want good news, but be honest with me. Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm 6'3", I find the montero to be comfortable. Although the way the seat is shaped, my wallet digs into my rear much more so in this car than most others.

I also find that they are really pretty quiet on the highway. A lot of the noise is going to depend on tire tread and the surface you're driving on though.

They are tall, so wind can push you around pretty easily, and I've only topped out around 19mpg. Might do better with stock tires (31" BFG)

I am 6'8" and 345lbs, and no I am not fat. I am just a big guy. I always appreciated my gen II.5 because it had excellent leg room and head room. Not only did it have great legroom for the drive, but I love the tall seating position in the second row. I also comfortably fit in the second row. My wife's little brother fit well in the shotgun seat when we would go wheeling and he is 6'11". Yes he plays college basketball, so all that height did not go to waste. As long as you are not 7'1" I think you would be fine.

My biggest issue with the Gen II.5 was aftermarket support, otherwise they are a fantastic vehicle. I always got between 20-24mpg. I never got worse than 20 mpg in the year I owned it. It's too bad I totaled it about 15 months ago or I would still be driving it to this day.

I am 6'-7", 300 lbs or so, and kinda fat. Pretty evenly split between torso and leg length. I fit okay in the Monty. I have bad knees, usually can't drive terribly long distances with the scar tissue formally known as "tendons" getting hot and causing pain when bent at an angle. The seating position in the Monty is a bit more verticle than I normally use, but comfortable. I drove all day last Sunday. 3 hours to the trail, 4 hours on the trail, and three hours home. My knees were fine.

I could move the seat back another two inches, but I don't NEED too. I HAD to move the seat back in my LR3 and various Volvo's and other cars prior.

Here is me, on the far right leaning on my Monty:

Stock tires are actually 265/70R15 (per tirerack.com 29.7" overall diam.) so closer to 30" tires (per tirerack.com 29.6" overall diam.). If you are looking to get the best MPG sticking closer to stock tire size may helpful. I believe 4D55 Performance lives in the Salt Lake City area so the altitude may have contributed to the above EPA estimated MPG that he was able to achieve.

I think there is truth to what you are saying because RogerH is from Salt Lake City as well and he gets similar fuel mileage.

Do a google search on the negative effects of driving/sitting with your wallet left in your rear pocket, it will surprise you.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
6'2" x 35" and i find the Gen 2 Montero very comfortable, the dead pedal is also a great thing for keeping the knees at a good angle i found out. My Gen 1 doesn't have one and it makes my left knee hurt on long drives.

My Gen I LS had the dead pedal. I bet you can swap one in and use it. Check if there's a mounting bracket in your left side footwell.
