I might think that it would require a bit of brace work to make the cans strong enough to support weight and not buckle under anything more than flat road travel. The sidewalls and covers for milspec cans are meant to distribute the weight when being stacked. They probably wouldn't do as well when specific pressure is applied to one spot(sitting on it).
But, then again, I could be totally wrong on it.
