Rebuilding the steering on a '98 Taco.

At 100,400 mikes the rack was loose, and the lower ball joints were squeaking.

So, after some investigation I found a genuine Toyota Re-man rack, PN 44200-35042-84, list price $596.00, sold to me at my local dealer for $496.00 plus core charge of $150.00.

New tie rods were $75.00 each - $150.00 - couldn't see a reason to replace the rack and not do tie rods at the same time...

New lower ball joints were $128.00 each - $254.00

Already had poly rack bushings installed - $0.0

Total parts $1050 less core - $900.00

Total for labor, including alignment - $511.00

Total cost $1411.00

Theorectialy the truck should be good to go for the next 100K! With the ICON coilovers set to 2.5" of lift, I doubt the lower ball joints will last that long...

What kind of ball joints and tie rod ends did you use, stock Toyota or aftermarket? If aftermarket, what dimensions and/or features should I be looking for? I'm looking to replace mine at 185K, as far as I have found, nothing is creaking, but I do have some vibration at various speeds. The truck is my daily driver and trail rig, much like the EW Tacoma and Baja Taco so I'd like something good but not to crazy. It may not necessarily need it but its additional peace of mind and confidence.
Thanks for any advice!
