Recommendations for shackle/D ring size

Hi,
I have been away from the portal for awhile, but have been getting back into my truck. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad cab short bed 4x4 cummins turbo diesel. Mostly stock with an ARB front bumper (always wanted one and in a moment of weakness bought it), Power Wagon flares, and some additional oil/fuel filtration. Slowly putting together some simple recovery gear. Will be getting 3" x 30' snatch strap, a 60" hi-lift with the Rescue 42 attachment, and already have a mv50 compressor, simple tools, jumper cables, and NATO fuel cans etc. However what size shackles do you suggest. The "standard" seems to be 3/4" with the 7/8" pin, since my truck is a heavy fullsize truck should I go with a bigger shackle? Also what do people think of the 2" receiver shackle mounts?
This isn't my daily driver anymore, but am looking to have the simple stuff that will take care of most issues, would love to get a winch, but can't justify the cost at the moment, for the amount I would use it.

Thanks in advance.

:sombrero: The pretty much standerd size for the general off-road community is 3/4" rated shackles and I use 3/4" rated shackles and they're rated at close to 5 tons, my jeep weighs around 5800 lbs (loaded) and I haven't had to put my shackles/straps to "MAX" test--yet, however-

Your truck would probably need at least 7/8" shackles rated at 6 to 8 tons, for comfort and most tow/snatch straps are rated in far excess of that-

Good luck

Look at the safe working load rated for the shackles you need, and I carry 6, 4 on my bumpers, 2 trail bag.

Yup, the size you choose to use can depend on the design factor. If you're using cheap ones that have a 3:1 factor I'd go larger. If you're using 5:1 rated ones, like CM or Van Beest Green Pin, then you can safely, IMO, go a size smaller. 3:1 is the industry standard (in reality no such standard exists) for winching so that's why I say using 5:1 rated shackles lets you go slightly smaller if you choose.
Also, with quality steel shackles it's considered as failing when it begins to deform. For instance my CM 5/8" screw pin shackles, WLL of 5t, begin to deform at 25t (rated anyway, I haven't personally tested that), but actually break at a considerably higher load.
Sometimes though, larger (or smaller) shackles just work better in a given situation. I actually carry a variety from 3/8" to 1". Though my "normal" shackles are 5/8 and 3/4".
