today I purchased two of these Rhino Pack heavy duty water container(s) [very thick plastic], really was looking for something different locally & happened to come across these at a local army navy store. I looked at a desert patrol model & thought the included spigot was rather weak, along with the case material. They were $16@ plus tax. overall dimensions are approx 20" X 14" X 6" and are 5 1/2 gallons each.

my kid filled them up and placed them on a scale, combined weight is 102lbs, for now they will be part of our home backup water supply in case hurricane Irene wreacks havoc...

I also like the molding pattern on the sides, where as they kind of lock into each other, plus the funnel adapter was included & a bit stronger too. Oh yeah on teh rear are teh vent caps, which are threaded caps inside of popup vents liek the other models, I hope this helps to ensure the water remains as pure as it entered

I'll have to keep an eye out for those. I've used the cheaper Reliance cans, but dislike the leaking vent plugs; those threaded caps should take care of that. They look more stout, which will be nice, too.

Purchased one of these today, is there anything I should put in the water to help with water storage?

If it's treated tapwater, not really. But a few drops of bleach per gallon wouldn't hurt.

AA1PR, when you look in these are there any thin / translucent spots? Seems the big difference in these containers is whether they are blow-molded or roto-molded. The milspec LCI can's are quite thick, like the Specter cans. Something like 4-7mm. As opposed to my Aquatainers that ridiculously thin on the bottoms. So thin I thought I'd better put some bedliner on the bottom of those to build them up. How thick would you say these Reliance cans are? Can you deform the bottom with your bare fingers?

eta that's a good price, too. Aquatainer cubes have gone up from $9 to $15 over the last few years. Likewise the LCI cans, which used to be 3/$50 and are now $25ea. $16+ for the Reliance seems a fair current price.

They seem pretty sturdy. I tried pushing in the bottom of the can by hand but didnt get it to move. Overland Journal recently did a write up on them.
