Relocating Winch Solenoid

My new winch just arrived today. It's a superwinch lp8500 with a solenoid box mounted on the drum of the winch. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will fit in its current location without cutting some of the grille (which I'd rather not do) and would also rather have a cleaner look with the solenoid box under the hood or behind the grille. From what I understand, all I need to do to relocate the solenoid box is extend the wiring with 2ga wire to a good spot under the hood or behind the grille. Are there any additional steps I need to take besides just extending wires the additional length?

That's about it. When I did mine on my old trooper I also relocated the controller plug in to inside the cab...

yes it is that straight forward.

as above you could chose to relocated the socket for the remote as you have the box out and more or less apart. again just extend the standard wireing. On my defender the solenoid is under the wing and the socket comes out of the blank wing vent. this means your not opening the hood or scrambling around trying to get your remote in.

IF you have the time, I would also splice into the wires of the remote and extend them into an in-cab switch. very well worth the time and not difficult at all!

just ended up extending the wires and moving the solenoid box to under the hood. pretty straightforward job. unfortunately i did have to do some slight cutting to make room for the clutch lever. i am planning on moving the controller access from under the hood to the grille area when i get a chance, just wanted to get the basics taken care of and get the winch running today.
