Remote rear window button

I recently camped a weekend in the 4 runner and it worked great except when you got hot or cold you had fumble through the front packed with stuff, find the key turn it on, hope the radio wasn't cranked find the rear window button and roll it up or down. Alot of hassle. I made something better.

I purchased a window universal switch from parts express for 10 bucks shipped, did a little wire tracing and Viola! I have window switch on the inside of the rear cargo hatch that you don't have to worry about the key.

I traced the wires off the key tumbler for the rear window. I hooked up the 3 wires up and cut a hole in the plastic cover.

Works great and cheap mod too.

Nice, i always wondered why you couldnt roll the back window up with the remote - stupid. Fyi - you know you can roll the back window up with the key & twist it right/left in the lock as well right?

Nice mod.

If the newer models are anything like the 1st Gen's like mine, I strongly suggest jumping the control terminals (you just solder two small pieces of coper wire between the pins ofn the control circuitry) so you can use the switch wether the truck is on or not. I did and really it makes it alot easier to get up and open the window in the middle of the night. I'm thinking of putting a switch in the back, but jumpering the terminals should have been done from the factory IMO. It's that good of a mod. Look up 4Crawler's website he has a wealth of info that is still applicable to the later model rigs. Great site.

Cheers

The rear switch is worth it - I tapped into the wires from the key cylinder in the tailgate, but on the inside just a few inches from the switch
