Removing house paint from a vehicle?

I tried the steam thing- it actually works a little. I used a commercial carpet cleaner/steamer with a small attachment for stairs. The steam actually helps, but it's still an extremely slow process. I'm going to try some citrus based stripper gel and if I screw up and it goes to deep, I'll just repaint the stupid truck. :yikes:
I tried a 3600 psi pressure washer- nothing. I swear, whatever paint this is- it's friggin awesome. Could probably blow the truck up and the paint would still be there, perfectly intact. I tried a scotch-brite pad and all it did was buff the area and make it shine. This crap is like kryptonite.

I wonder if it's something like a Rustoleum. An Alkyd Enamel. I'd also love to know what it is, because I'm not happy with what I used on my trailer...

The guy who did it had a farm, and I went up there to pick up the roof tent and some other stuff left over. I wandered around the shop looking for paint cans, and all he had there was an old unmarked bucket of nasty white death. It was all dried and no indication of what it was. His wife assumes it was the stuff they used on the fences around the farm. The guy died, so I can't really ask him.
I've got plates and insurance on the truck now, so it's out of the shop where I can get some pics. Stay tuned...
I might just have a "scrape it off with fingernails" party with free beer and pizza. So far, that seems to be the best option. :Wow1:

Here's some pics of the damage. The paint comes off the decals easily and the decals come off easily. Everywhere the paint touches the original paint, it's unbelievable how well it adheres. We're trying several more options tonight to see if anything else works.

Carefully using acetone on a rag, in small areas at a time, could work but it will also remove the stickers.

I just cant wrap my mind around why someone would paint over one of these awsome pieces of expedition history, not to mention with house/fence paint

If we end up painting it, we'll take it down all the way and make it right. The steekers are not an issue- the sign company that did the truck originally sent me all the files to reproduce everything except the Drive Around the World logos and orange stripe. I've been trying to get in touch with Nick Baggarly, but most addresses for him don't work or he doesn't answer 'em.

This is only the START of what's wrong with this truck. The previous owner just wanted a kitted Disco and cared nothing about the history. The GPS power and antenna wires? Cut 'em off, leaving them hanging. The custom seat covers? Couldn't get the headrests off, so he cut the seat covers off. He peeled the orange stripes and painted over EVERYTHING else. Threw the tent in a musty barn, too. None of the add-on lamps work, the inside map lights that were added sometimes work, sometimes not. HID's were removed and wires cut. There's a CB hacked in, hooked to cig lighter plug with wire caps and speaker wire. The antenna was zip tied to the roof rack. Oh yeah, it's a fixer-upper.
