Renting Teardrop Trailers

I learned the hardware that my family doesn't really like the PopUp type trailer, myself not liking giant trailers, my daughter not being fond of soft walls or too close to the mountain lions and bears. To that end I'm exploring the teardrop as a hardwalled, fully enclosed solution for the family to sleep in. I also want something burly enough to pull through water fordings or over bumpy Jeep trails so my ideal is the Moby1 with a RTT that I could sleep in with my son while the girls are encased below, but that is priced completely out of my league. Laughably expensive for my budget and not even a consideration. :Wow1:

Before I dig too far into building my own, I'd like to take the family out and try sleeping in a Teardrop + RTT configuration and see if we like that, but the ONLY place I see anything like that is through OfftheGrid Rentals, but they're in California.

Does anyone have any experience renting Teardrops or RTTs? I tried searching for some obvious terms [teardrop rental] etc and get nothing helpful. Maybe the answer is to befriend locals with this setup and see about renting theirs, but I have no idea how to insert myself into that community if I'm not in it already as well.

How did you determine that a Teardrop or RTT was right for you before shelling out thousands of dollars?

Thanks!

I can't help ya much with rentals....but if you're researching on buying, you should check out SoCal Teardrops as well. The Krawler is a little cheaper than the Moby1 XTR and comes with some stuff that's standard whereas you'd be paying for extra on the Moby, so you'd save some money in some places.

I have a Krawler on order and should be getting it in October. I really wanted the Moby but it was out of my price range. I did splurge on some stuff for the Krawler options wise, but I will was still under my max limit I wanted to spend. If I got the Moby outfitted out how I outfitted my Krawler, I'd probably be looking at a $6000+ difference.

I'm pretty sure there is an outfit in boulder that rents them.

They aren't off road units and won't be fully kitted like what you're describing but should be enough to see if it's the right fit for you and the family.

Oh what the heck, how did this place not come up in my searches. I guess I should stop using AltaVista or something. That's exactly what I'm looking for ih8philly. It would at least let me try the girls see if its up to their standards while me and the boy rough it in a tent. (c:

I feel stupid for asking, but thanks!
