Replacement tonuge

I've got this trailer the previous home owner left at my house that I'm going to use as a utility trailer right now but eventually I'm going to use it for family trips to haul my extra crap.

However, there's a problem. The guy must have been learning how to weld or something because the original tongue was replaced with some back *** backwards T-beam set up with extra angle supports. All the welds are just puddles of slag(?) where a nice weld was supposed to be. I knew they were going to fail, just didn't know when. Well this weekend I found out when one fell off one day and the other fell off the next day. Now the tongue is supper bouncy and flexie, not something that's good for a trailer and bad welds.

Anyway, long story short, the cargo area of the trailer is in great shape. Strong and good welds, obviously he had no part in that construction process, however I want t replace the tongue and that's where you guys come in.

Could anyone tell me where would be a good place to get a new tongue? Do they sell tongues as kits or should I just go to a metal supplier and buy a section of tube and have it welded the right way?

Thanks.

Pictures would help. You have a few options. You could re-weld what you have, adding additional supports as required. Or, you could pick up a new support beam at a metal store.

If you specific trailer parts, Northern Tool has a good supply of parts.

Sorry, no pics of the trailer. I'd say it's very typical of a lot of trailers I see built here from scratch. It's 4'x8', the frame itself is built with 2" angle and the welds look good on that.

The tongue isn't worth saving, it's so flexible it's ridiculous. I got a price from a local metal center for 32 bucks for a 4' section of 1/8" wall 2" x 2" tube. The price is much better than I had assumed. I plan on adding bracing to the new section in an 'A' shape.

Thanks for your response.
