It pains me to admit, but in the spirit of full disclosure the "Residential" AC system mounted to our camper failed!
While driving ~110km/hr down the highway I heard a screeching metal spinning on metal sound followed by a rhythmic clunk - kaclunk noise from above my head. When I pulled over I discovered the fan jumping around the inside of the condenser unit. Closer inspection revealed the rubber mount connecting the motor shaft to the fan blade had failed.
Mounted ~4 meters off the ground facing forward on a 4WD expedition truck thats seen trips all over Fraser Island, countless rough dirt/off road excursions, and ~40,000kms of highway driving its had a harder life than most caravans would ever see.
I guess trying to force air out into the incoming 110km/hr airstream had finally taken its toll on the poor rubber mount. Yes.... we run the AC while driving. Highways, Offroad, anywhere, the AC is on pretty much 24/7 as its solar powered and I like being cold.
A quick phone call to a local AC bloke had a replacement fan blade in my hands the next morning , 10 minutes after that I was cool as a cucumber once again. Good luck finding RV specific parts that quickly in a regional town!
Would I buy another residential AC and mount it to an RV? In a heartbeat. 1/3rd the power consumption, silent operation, and change from $800 makes it a no brainer, even if I do have to climb up and replace a fan every few years
