Revcon 250 4X4 Conversion

I recently drove by a Revcon 250 and it got me to thinking. This would make a great off road camper if you could put a modern 4x4 drive train under it. The standard drive train in one of these is a front wheel drive out of an Olds 455 Toronado. The coach is 25”-6” long, 7”-6” wide and 185” wheelbase. I was thinking that you could drop the front drive train and take off the rear axle and put the whole thing on top of something like Ford F350 long wheel base crew cab 4x4. The Ford would need to be stretched a bit to get to the 185” wheelbase. Then after thinking about it more I would just want to make a frame from scratch. Should be able to interface with the frame on the Revcon, it’s a 3” by 6” alum tube. The axels would need to be a little wider so that is a set of custom axels. For the power train I was thinking about something like a Ford 6.7L turbo diesel. The big question is will the engine fit inside the Revcon engine compartment. A 70’s engine must be pretty big. Looking for opinions on the feasibility of my idea. Has anyone ever tried this before?

Thanks,
Big g

It'd be a project, but would give you an interesting and one-of-a-kind rig.

I don't know how much you know about Revcons, but they are pretty unique for their lightweight aircraft-like aluminum construction and their low center of gravity. For a motorhome that big, it handled very well; I even found an article talking about Bob Bondurant driving one around Laguna Seca. And at under 8,000 pounds, it weighed less than my Sprinter build. And good floor plans for a family, IMHO.

If you've found a good Revcon, you might have just as much total fun by using it as is. Your driveline swap might be an enjoyable exercise and don't let me talk you out of it, but a vintage Revcon is a pretty cool vehicle as is.

They are indeed nice rigs... Never saw one converted to 4WD but always a first :)
Start up a build thread if you decide to mod one.
