:iagree:

A few years too new for US importation, but Canadians can have it and it certainly looks the business. Most probably a 109 hp Perkins diesel, and all right hand drives, too, and I recall something about the front axle design not being brilliant. Still . . .

Cab used Dodge dayvan panels, chassis built as a one off, axles are Dana 70's, Dana Spicer 5 speed box with a remote Reynolds Boughton transfer box.
The front axle problems alluded to were to do with the steering under braking. It pulled to the left when braking heavily due to axle movement, this was remedied by retro fitting tie bars that located the axle.
Perkins Phaser 110t engine, a bit under powered, but a bit of tweaking and an intercooler should cure that:).
Could do with a locker as well.
Its only a few inches longer than a Land rover 110 but has a huge amount more space, no wasted length with a hood. and I can sleep across the truck (I'm 6'3").
I've got a tilt bed on mine unlike the comms body shown, I looked at the comms bodied trucks but they are considerably smaller inside than the canvas back, due to their drop in design.

If you like air con and power windows this isn't the truck for you, but if you like simple "hammer and spanner" fixes everything vehicles, then it's definitely worth considering. and a whole lot more robust than a Land rover.

I appreciate that first person report. Certainly seems like they will be a workable option in the U.S. once they're 25-years old. Looks to have some of the capabilities of the Pinzgauer with the advantage of being generally newer.

its a 101 replacement.

whats the leg room? i know the arrangement in those old dodge bodies, has the individual sitting almost entirely behind the window. that looks almost fj45 tight.

too bad the US manufacturers quit with van/pickups in the 60's. i always preferred the arrangement.

It's comfortable for me (6'3" tall), but you might struggle a bit if your taller. I did fit a KAB air ride seat in it as well, done several 5-6 hour journeys in it with no complaints.

Just got my RB44 this fall. Its the GS softtop rig. 11000 original miles. Ive had it out on a couple of outings so far. A decent drive and not a bad highway cruiser and decent room in the cab. At least much better than my 52 Willys though Ill keep that for shows and special events. Not too bad on fuel either and I had no trouble with license and registration. Ill be taking it out to south eastern British Columbia this spring for some adventuring in the mountains.

Wow thats cool. Reminds me of a LR Forward Control. So the hard sided body is de-mountable? How is it removed/ For instance is it possible to de-mount and mount in the field for use as a base camp? That would be awesome.

From what i understand it bolts on. It may not bo too easy to remove as is suspect its heavy and there are lifting loops on each corner of the roof to use a crane but I was thinking that a good hydraulic camper jack at each corner would lift it off nice and then it could be used as a base. :)

The hard side box is not demountable, although you could probably make it demount, as for size, they lose quite a bit of room inside compared to the tilt back because the box has to fit between the lockers on the bed and they are lower.
