Rhino Rack Tracks Install Help

Hey All,

I just got some Rhino Rack RTC tracks and need to install them onto my Snugtop XV shell. I've been calling around to some dealers and they charge $200 just to mount the tracks!!! Thats insane for only 10 holes drilled. So I've searched the forums here and need a little info. I plan on adding a bajarack later on and want the lowest profile I can get. Don't want to use the load bars due to the added 4-5 inches. If I mount the tracks toward the outer curved area, the tracks then start angling out. Not are if this would be a problem when wanting to install a rack on it later.

1. Are the tracks supposed to be installed in the honeycomb center or more toward the outer "curved" area????

Thanks for any help you all can give

Chris

Not sure if this will help you out or not but...

I installed my Thule tracks outside of the honeycomb area. I did it that way because it was easier and worked better for me. While they still sit flat I have found that most racks won't mount up without modification because they are so far apart (40 something inches on my 2gen tundra cap). If I were to do it again I would mount closer to the center right on the edge of the honey comb area.

$200 sounds like a good deal to me from a dealer. Its a lot of measuring to get it right the first time. You also need two people to tighten the whole deal after everything in place and sealed up (one under and one over the top).

Well I ended up mounting the tracks today. I decided to mount it in the honeycomb section. Super strong and I doubt it will be a problem in the future. For reference, if anyone is going to be doing this, be sure to measure from the midline of the topper. Apparently the front and back are different widths.

Ugh, sorry I didn't see this earlier. You shouldn't have mounted the tracks on the honeycombed part but rather on the thinner but solid part. The honeycomb part is crushable so when you tighten the bolts or your load pulls against it, there's a good chance it's going to deform. Hopefully it'll work out.

Ehh it worked out well. This is the same area that snugtop actually mounts their racks when purchased from the factory as an option. I don't plan on putting a ton of weight up there anyway. Also, the tracks wouldn't be facing up enough to do what I wanted to do anyway. If it is ever a problem I can epoxy the space between the fiberglass shells in the honeycomb area. This will make it extremely strong and resist any crushing. Kind of like a boat hull repair/mount.
