Rings not seating

Hi all. I have installed a new motor in my 91, all went well fired right up. Drove it around the block lightly and it ran fine. But after awhile at idle it slowly died. It cranked like no compression, checked timing and all was good. I have squirted oil in each cylinder and it fired up and will run with me feeding the throttle, than slowly die at idle. It seems to me that the rings are not seating, my friend says get it running and take it out and drive it at higher rpm's up and down some hills to try and get the rings to seat.
It didn't run that long, idled fine at first, what are my chances that I can get it to seat? My question to all is what do most of you do to seat in a new engine and/or what are you break in suggestions. Thanks in advanced for suggestions/ideas.

did you check fuel pressure, fuel filter, maybe some dirt got into fuel lines during remove/install? maybe something simple as throttle position sensor, usually when you start engine it has higher RPMs and then drop to normal and yours is not set up right? - i'm not an expert just some things i would check

Yeah, I don't think this is an issue of the rings seating properly or not. Rings don't need to be seated. They're either installed correctly or not and need to bed in through a natural break in. If the rings are an issue it's already too late. I agree that it sounds more like a fuel delivery issue, or something electronic. If you didn't do the work yourself then take it back the shop.

Its not fuel pressure and a new fuel filter was installed. The motor was sitting around for awhile and had compression and was remanufactured by Chrysler. Did a compression check and it was low in all cylinders, maybe from sitting so long the rings are bad. I was hoping to not have to pull it again, but that may be the path I'm headed in.

I agree with dieseltechjay. Unless something failed in a major way, your rings are fine, they will fully seat during the break in period. But before that the engine should still run fine. There is a laundry list of things that can cause your symptoms, especially after an engine swap. Don't panic. Start with the basics.
