Hey everyone this is my first time posting on here but I figured 3 people and a full-size bloodhound traveling from Mississippi to California by car would be a good place to start. We left Oxford, MS on Saturday and did a quick drive to Oklahoma City as a quick overnight stop and as a chance to get the dog out of the car. We left Oklahoma City early and headed to Albuquerque, NM to stop by Petroglyph National Monument and walk the dog on the 2.5 mile loop. With time to spare we made our way to Michael Emery Trailhead to catch a beautiful sunset and give the dog one last walk before bed. Today we had a final destination of Flagstaff in mind, but many stops along the way. We spent a quiet, yet cold morning at Humble Coffee Co in Albuquerque (highly recommended) and then got in the car to start the drive. We started the day driving a leg to Gallup, NM where we made a quick pit stop at Red Rock State Park. Although a beautiful site, it is quite an odd state park with many stray dogs around. Leaving New Mexico behind we made our way to the real destinations of the day, Petrified Forest National Park and Holbrook, AZ. We went to Petrified Forest National Park because it is one of the few completely dog friendly National Parks on the drive! After catching a quick hike and taking in the scenery, we made our way 20 min up the road to Holbrook, AZ. Holbrook is by far the best stop and Route 66 and is the town that was the inspiration for the movie Cars. We made a stop at Joe and Aggie's Cafe where they were kind enough to box our food up so we could eat it at the park next door with the dog! Overall, its been an amazing three days and am looking forward to tomorrow where we finish the drive to California!
