Rock Sliders: Unlimited JK

Had Schrockworks on my 07. Great sliders!! Beefy and almost impossible to bend. They saved my bacon many times, and took a beating at Rubicon then asked for more.

I like both designs but when it comes to sliders I always prefer frame-mounted. So shrockworks would take the win on this one for me.

I do like how full metal fab work put more thought into your typical body mount slider.

Why do you prefer frame mounted over body mounted?

.

The frame is the strongest part of the vehicle. So if a hard impact does occur then the force is transmitted to the frame not the body.

Now I am a former truck guy and body mount sliders almost unheard of on Toyotas and Nissans. I believe due to the wheel base and weight of those vehicles.
personally i think the only reason you see it in the Jeep world is because of the TJ. The TJ'S frame sat alot lower than the body and the the transfer case sat even lower so a frame mounted probably would kill your clearance. Plus the TJ is about 1,000ibs lighter and with is short wheel base the sliders wouldn't have to support and same amount of weight compared to a JKU.

You should also look into white knuckle offroad. They're frame mounted and john offers dom tubing. Good alternative to what some have said about schrockworks taking time to fulfill orders. Here are some pictures of them on my rig. Pretty easy to install too. Took an afternoon by myself.

Those WhiteKnuckles look stout!!

Yea, they are! 57 lbs each, I think. Had them welded as well after I bolted them on. Totally worth the money! And it's a small shop guy, love helping guys like that grow their business.

Do you have any pictures of how and where they are mounted? What is involved?

Here are some pictures of the mounting locations. It's pretty easy to install, just need some jack stands and a jack tall enough to position the sliders in their final mounting place on the frame. There are 3 support beams that mount to the jeep frame. So I think it was like 6-8 holes you need to drill each side, w/the transmission crossbar bolting underneath the sliders, using the existing, threaded frame hole.

You mount them once, mark the places to drill into the frame, remove the sliders, drill and then mount and bolt up. Some of the bolts will shear off if you're like me and have issues lining them up again properly. But I got them welded and they are part of the Jeep forever! If you do get them welded just make sure you tell the tech to not weld the front bottom bolt area, since that is the transmission cross bar and needs to be removable for service, etc.

I have the White Knuckle as well. Super stout and I received them about 3 weeks after I ordered. Install involved drilling about 8 holes into the frame which was not that easy but once I managed to slow down the drill speed it helped out tremendously. I ordered mine bare so I can't comment on their powdercoat, but I've already had to touch up my paint job a couple times so powdercoat might be the way to go.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages on the trail with the Shrockworks vs Full Metal Fab high clearance? Any input is appreciated.

As was mentioned in a prior post, clearance and need are the biggest issues with how/where you mount the armor. The thing is a lot of rock sliders double as steps. If you ask me this is just another place to get hung up on large rocks. On the other hand if you want/need steps then you are willing to give up a little clearance for the advantage steps offer.

My choice came down to the fact I personally could not justify the cost of replacing my rubi skids. Yes, if you rock crawl and/or want steps a frame mounted does offer more overall protection. For me the added protection was not needed and could not be justified. Did not want/need steps, less hanging down was a positive for me, and I already had the factory skids. At the time when the choice was made I was spending way to much on other items. Don't know if you have a rubicon, if not, rubi rails usually can be bought really cheap off of jeep forums.

In the end I opted for rocker panel skins. These work with the rubi skids. The thought process was if I ever did come down on a rock hard enough to bed the rubi skids then I had a second layer of protection before body damage occurred. Secondly, small rock or pebbles get trapped between the factory rubi skids and the body causing paint damage and would eventually lead to rust. The rocker panel skins solved this little issue. Less weight, less cost, and a slimmer profile worked for me.

if you have a dog watch out for the sliders with gaps betwee the rails as you dog will get his leg stuck while jumping out and break it.
