roof top tent on a snugtop xtr?

Hi folks,

Still looking at options for my 1st overland build, I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on installing a roof top tent on a pick up topper? I can't seem to find a price online or the weight a snug top XTR would support on an f-150. I would be considering putting a hard shell tent up top like maybe a James Baroud or equivalent.

I was originally considering an AT habitat I mentioned in one of my other posts, but due to the cost and the lead time to build one my wife just wants me to consider some other options. I was thinking:

Topper for the f-150
hard shell roof top tent
maybe adding on one of those 270 degree awnings

Any thoughts are appreciated and thank you.

I don't have an RTT, but I have regularly carried loads of lumber on the rack mounted to my standard (non-reinforced) SnugTop shell on my GMC. Those loads have been up to 1100 pounds with no damage to the shell. Bent the rack, though.

I have a 270 awning on another truck. I went with EZ-Awn Bat 270 and am pleased with it. Quick setup and takedown, pricey but good quality.

Unfamiliar with that exactly model, but Snugtop is known as a brand that does offer toppers that are tough enough for an RTT.

Contacting a Snugtop dealer, or the company should provide you with any needed info.

The only thing I would say about a topper, get one that has side access/doors.

Thanks for the replies folks and I will also check out that awning! I'll be at overland expo in 2 weeks and I bet I see some great set ups there too. Have a great day.
