Roof top tent orientation suggestions...

Is there a written rule for roof top tent deployment...driver's side or passenger side? I'll be using a large 4 person tent with annex and dual ladders on my 4-door JK. The opposite side will have the fox-wing awning and it is "side specific". I will also have the rear setup for cooking. It seems that the annex would be useful on the driver's side in case I had to come down and get to the interior area for control. But, the awning would be best on the driver's side as it will wrap around and cover the rear hatch better, as the rear door is hinged on the passenger side. Some have mentioned to me that it's best to have the annex and ladders on the passenger side because you could get off the trail just enough to let others pass by, and keep your tent outbound of the roadway. I know that won't be the case usually as there will often times be more room for setup, but it does make sense. I just thought I'd get your opinions on the subject before I ordered my awning.

Thanks,
Jeff

Well...it's a moot point as far as the Fox Wing goes. I just learned that the passenger side version of the awning is being discontinued per Rhino Rack. They have none in stock with no expectations of receiving more at this time. I guess that closes this thread! lol

Well, if from time to time you plan on going in a camprground, tje standard is form camper door to the right. That means that if you plan on backing up to your space so that youre cargo area is not as exposed to the person walking around, you should put your opening either to the passenger side or to the rear.

Picnic table and fire pit by a rule of thumb are always on the right side of the camper, same as door.
