Rooftop Tent on a Jeep YJ

This past weekend i got the chance to test out an Oasis Tent. Let me tell you, it was some of the best sleep i have had in a tent. I mounted it to my kargo master rack using just 4 u-bolts found at lowes. The tent is very light in weight, i was able to install the tent by myself without a problem. Anyways, i give this tent 2 thumbs up, i plan on buying one as soon as money permits.

If you have any questions about the mounting, ask away.

I think those are a cool solution for the smaller rigs. How do the "wings" hold your weight? Like a cot, kind of?

exactly like a cot. im a big boy, 6'5" 215 lbs and it held me fine. hardly any flexing.

Cool! I've always wanted to put load bars on the hardtop and mount a double tent cot up there. Guess that's about how it'd look.

Oasis Tent

Yo! I had always wondered about those tents and it sounds like you're very happy with it. We're actually planning to do a gear review of roof mount and trailer mount tents in a future issue of JPFreek so if you'd like to provide some more details to us to be published in an official gear review, let me know.

Glad to hear the tent workout for you. I really like the idea of a lightweight roof tent but have concerns about its comfort and durability. If you dont mind me asking, did you borrow the tent? Thanks.

i borrowed the tent for a couple of weeks from Oasis Tents. One trip over to Eastern Washington (90+ degree weather) and the following weekend in Brittish Columbia (30 degree weather at night, 50's at night) and i slept like a baby. I am 6'5" if your wondering.

CJ-7 offroad Trailer

Check out the thread I added to expedition trailers. It has a large tent available thru Car-top-tent.com. 14g metal floor with PVC board sandwiched by another metal layer for a floor. Tent has a rain fly from the factory. Features an adjustable ladder. Is 6'x7'x44" open and 6'x3.5'x1' closed. Got mine off of e-bay for $480+135. shipping. Weighs about 125lbs.:26_7_2:

Cool. The tent looks very simliar to tent cot but with better construction. But its hard to justify the $800 more. After using it, could you see yourself paying $1k for it?

I think this tent would be very ideal for me but the price is kinda outrageous IMHO.

I agree that they are pricey. Though I have to say I went to Cabela's and started pricing comparable sized quality tents. For what this does - it's ease in erecting and folding and the really great aspect of being off the ground and away from wet and cold with an insulated padded floor as well as no longer losing a good tent to holes made by rocks, I thought it was worth a try. Many trips I take I stay in one location but one day and move on. In just a few days this gets tiring and shows wear and tear on a :tent: tent. Further, I was willing to try sleeping on an elevated platform for awhile. The tent's rain flap allows me to utilize it's edge to clasp a tarp to for a high ceiling awning over my tailgate that serve as my kitchen area. No more cooking in the rain or the boiling sun.

This topic definately has my interest. I've got a Jeep TJ with dual tops and some form of roof rack system which pivots away to allow soft-top use while accommodating a home away from home tent mount is exactly what I seek.
