I am coming up on the end of my warranty (at 43,000 now, 2004 Discovery II S) am in need or coming close to needing rotors and pads.

Would you please make some suggestions on Rotors? I am cool with the Thermoquiet pads unless someone convinces me otherwise or I need to match pads with rotors.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hope you all have a great holdiay and recall the reason for it.

I put the DBA slotted and drilled rotors from EE on my D-90. THey squeaked for many many miles. I used the OEM pads and found those to be the best with the DBAs. Threw in some extended brake lines as well, the stainless ones.

I'd go stock Rotors and pads unless you really have a need for something stouter.

my dealer for my 2004 HSE Disco wanted $900.00 for brakes all around, no rotors.

I went to where I buy my tires, and they have one mechanic who does brakes - made certain they ordered the same pads - $320.00

call around, it can save you real money!

If you are wiling to do the work yourself you can save real $$

OEM pads for the front are $108/axle
Mintex (I have been using this brand for my cars for decades) are $42/axle

Rotors look like they are going for around $60 ea.

Quick find Discovery II service parts

Thanks for all the great feedback. I really appreciate it. I will definitely be doing the work myself. Dealer charges WAAYYYY too much for this work.

It looks to me like about $350 including shipping for new pads & rotors for all wheels on your Disco II.

Lately I've started thinking about paying myself labour for working on my car. Keep track of my hours, then pay myself into a bank account that only gets used for trip fuel costs. I keep wondering if it would lead to more trips or a vehicle badly in need of servicing.

Maybe I should suggest this idea to the wife...
