West of Montrose, Colorado on the eastern slope of the Uncompahgre Plateau lies one of the most scenic areas of Colorado. This is the region of Roubideau Canyon/Creek and Potter Canyon/Creek which run in a rather south-north fashion and empty into the Gunnison River near Delta, Colorado. Potter Canyon/Creek empties into the Roubideau about 6 miles upstream/south from 25 Mesa Road at the end of the lower Roubideau Canyon Road. Full of incredible vistas from over 8,000 ft down to 5,000 feet at the Gunnison River. Numerous hiking/horse/mtn bike trails dot the area plus beautiful and mainly easy 4x4 trails along the canyon rim and nearby lower BLM lands east of the Roubideau down to the private farmlands of the Uncompahgre Valley. My wife and I spent three days of day trips exploring the area on May 10-12, 2013. The middle day May 11 we led a group of WS4W club jeepers and my rover onto parts of this scenic area which lies between the Transfer Road on the south and 25 Mesa Road on the north. That same day one of our WS4W group led us to a great area of dino prints and fossils nearby as well. Here are a large series of photos from that 3 day exploration. Enjoy the great scenery.
