RRC with 235/85 BFG AT's

A buddy of mine just got a 93 LWB with OME medium suspension ARB front and rear bumpers etc. etc.

He just got the 235/85/16 BFG AT's and is experimenting with tire pressures. Is anyone here running a similar setup and if so, would you share your pressure setup?

Many thanks, as always.

Cambo on lrrforums.com is running that size, you might want to check in with him. I am running 285/75R16 and I run 40# max onroad. Offroad, depending on terrain, anywhere from 20 to 15#.

I had this tire and size on my TD90 and Defender 110; I was running between 34 and 36 psi on the road .

That size tire is perfect on just about any LR. Pressure...anywhere between 30-40 is fine.

Gearing for those tires is a little tall with the stock 3:54's. You might consider getting some 4:11's. That's what I have in my LWB and I love the setup.

I have the Goodyear MT/R in that size, I run 40 psi front and back on the street and anywhere from 16 to 20psi off-road.

I didn't bother with gearing changes for 235/85R16. I'll change gears when I change to bigger tires or get lockers. Ohterwise I'm happy w/ the gearing for now.

LT235/85R16 will carry:

At 40-psi 1,870-lbs each, or 3,740 per axle, or 7,480 gross.

At 35-psi they carry 1,700-lbs each, or 3,400-lbs per axle, or 6,800-lbs gross.

Unless your vehicle is extremely heavy, I would probably never run more than 35-psi on the road, and would likely run less.

Your traction and ride will be better if the tires are not over inflated. In many years of running adequate tire pressures I have yet to see a fuel economy problem from running the ‘appropriate’ psi for the load.
