RTT on 1st Gen 4Runner?

I'm contemplating the addition of a RTT to my rig in the next several years, but I'm not sold on the ability of the fiberglass top to withstand the weight of the tent and its human contents. The top is pretty tough and certainly heavy, but will it take the weight of a rack, the tent itself, and ~350lbs of people and gear when in use? Anyone out there done one? I've had thoughts of building a modular rack that would attach to sliders and rear bumper and basically act as a rear exo/roof cage to support the RTT but I'd rather not if I don't have to. ;)

Who's got experience with loads like this on a first gen?

A Can-Back might be an option with its metal frame and built in rack mounting, but the website says their roof limit is 150 lbs - best to call and ask

Just a thought, the roof limit is usually given for dynamic loads. I had to research this extensivly for my 4Runner. A static load, parked and camping, would have a higher limit.

Jeez, I even posted in one of those threads a year ago and said almost the exact same thing I said yesterday. Apparently my memory sucks. Does not appear that anyone has any conclusive answers for this question, though. I did see some brackets in one of the OvExpo threads last night that basically spread the weight of the mount onto the rollbar inside; could be an option as well.

This is how I mounted mine in my runner for the summer, still enough room for the back seat to be up for passengers. Will be building a exo/rack deal to support the RTT up above the top in the next few weeks. Will post up once done.

Can't get the pic to work....will have to figure it out. I put the tent across the bed rails with the roll bar removed via custom brackets that attached to factory top holes.
