RTT on stock 5th Gen 4Runner rack...

So I recently purchased a RTT and I am wondering how I can install it on my stock roof rack. I would like to stay way from using cross bars because this route will create to much of a gap between my roof and the tent. I would like to use all stock parts and keep the tent closest to the roof.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to make this work?

Moat stock racks aren't going to hold the weight of a RTT. Guess it depends on the size and weight of the tent. I have a Tepui Autana and it was to heavy for my 3rd gen stock rack/cross bars.

Yeah I've wondered about the weight of the tent being a problem. It's close to 125lbs with the max roof rack limit is 130lbs...I think that's pushing it to the limit. A roof rack maybe in my future after all.

Your factory rack can hold the tent no problem, the factory cross bars are suspect. The factory rating is for dynamic load, when the vehicle is in motion. The static load rating is much higher than the dynamic rating. Since you don't want to add aftermarket crossbars you can always buy an aftermarket roof rack like a baja rack.

After doing some more searching I found out how to keep the stock rack and mount the RTT on top. Gonna go with this option...

The issue isn't the static weight of the tent but the road traveling weight with the tent swaying and bouncing against turns and what not. Just my two cents from my crossbars breaking. But my tent is 165lbs.
