It is similar, but I think they use the existing tub, insert bulk head, and install new top.

The Brute is a whole nother animal.

Actually, upon further investigation of the picture, it looks almost like the Brute cab on an Unlimited. I do think it's cool though.

Wow, very CJ8/scrambler esque. I would like the full roll cage though, if somehow that could be kept, in case you wanted to throw in a removable rear seat like the scramblers had. (at least my buddies did)

I am pretty sure they can build it pretty custom, with things like cages, bumpers etc.

They look really nice, but did you see their pricing? Unbelievable markup--they must be looking for customers who don't know any better.
EDIT: I meant the pricing on their extras/upgrades, not the vehicles themselves--they seem reasonably priced in that regard.

That's just an LJ with a hardtop on it. Slightly different than a GR8TOPS kit, but not enough to get me very excited, and certainly nothing like a Brute.

Here is my friends YJ with a scrambler top (hope he doesn’t mind me posting his pic) I'm not a big Jeep fan but I've always liked his setup. It Looks better with the doors .

OK, guys, here is the story in a nut shell. It's not a Brute, the brute kit alone is $10,000. Sure anyone can order aftermarket parts from several different places and build one of these on thier own. There is some custom fabrication that the home builder would have to be able to do, depending on what top that you buy. We use several tops to offer a variety of pricing options. The top of the line top is of corse the AEV Brute top which anyone can buy ($2000 after shipping). The Brute top does not come with a bulkhead to enclose the area between the top and the floor, so that would have to be custom made. We have a custom made fiberglass bulkhead that we use. We also do use the gr8tops standard top as well as a custom made top from gr8tops and a couple of others. It's not rocket science but it's not a 10 minute job either.

As for the factory sport bar, we do just cut off the rear seatbelt supportbars from the main sport bar. It's the same thing that's done to a Brute. We do offer some strengthening options if the customer wants. Between the front of the sportbar and the top itself there is adequate structure. we do not recommend any hardcore wheeling without some type of cage upgrade. We are also working on a bolt in rear sport bar that goes in the bed, much like the Jeep scrambler.

These are turn key vehicles and are marketed as so. We cater to the person that wants something different but doesn't want to do the work to get it. We also do the conversions on the customers vehicles. We do just the top conversions and about anything else that the customer wants. As for the extras pricing on the website, all prices include installation.

All conversions include a Line-X spray in bed liner.

Please check out the website at http://www.rubitrux.com/index.htm\

We have built over 20 of these and they are selling well, even for a very slow economy. We build them from mild to wild. The latest is the electric green with a 5.5" long arm suspension and 37" tires on AEV wheels.

I've read that one of the drawbacks of the GR8Tops is that the seat can't slide all the way back AND recline. Is the RubiTrux conversion different? I'd like to have a few extra inches so my seat travel and recline aren't limited by the hard top.
