Rusty fuel filler neck - what to do?

I've realized that my diesel fuel filler necks are rusting like crazy on the inside. This pile is from what I could reach with the wire brush. Can only imagine what has dropped into the tank as well. :Wow1:

Any advice on how to thoroughly clean it out (do I need to get it sandblasted?) and what to finish the interior of the neck with to stop it from rusting again?

It's a simply formed straightforward piece. If the rust worries you, just have one made from Type 304 stainless steel meant for exhaust tubing.

Yeah but I don't want to replace and I do understand fabrication. What I'd like to do is just clean it up so that it doesn't rust again - I'm not sure what treatment to use.

it's going to rust again and that rust is going into your tank were it will cause more rust. then into your fuel lines. as mr young stated rust never sleeps. highdesertranger
