Safari Straps net kit install

Safari Straps is a new manufacturer of net kits.

I have the 4 net TJ kit, which is the 4 piece kit with 2 side windows, full cage net and a divider net. There's also a 4 piece set which includes a rear only cage net, not the full cage net like I got.

They also have a JK set. With both versions you can buy as many or few pieces as you want.

They are very nice. They fit better than the side window nets from another manufacturer that I bought a few months ago. What's nice about the Safari Straps nets is the additional straps on the side windows verses the others I had. There's three straps front, three straps on the back, the other nets only had two front and two back straps, (arranged with one strap on each corner) and they never fit very tight. When I pulled the straps and buckles tight, the nets still sagged.

Another feature of this system is how the cage net integrates with the side nets in the way it attaches. The rear portion of the cage net has three loops per side, along the back portion of the net, and those loops are used with the three straps from the side window nets. This is a nice feature because it eliminates a bunch of extra straps and buckles to flop around in the breeze.

This system also includes some little doo-dads called "slip keepers" that are used to hold down the lose ends of the straps and keeps them from flailing around in the wind when running topless.

Here's the cage net. This net covers from the cage cross bar behind the front seats all the way down towards the tail gate.

Big net has three rings along the back portion. These integrate it with the side nets, minimizing the amount of straps and buckles required to attach everything, which really cleans up the look.

Once I had all the parts unbagged, I started the install. The top net strap wraps around passenger side of cage just forward of the speaker pod.

I attached both sides and loose fit the net in this position. Leave all straps loose until everything is attached, that way you can adjust everything once it's all in place.

The angled portion of the net faces the rear of the Jeep, label faces out.

The three strap on the rear of the side window net integrate with the loops on the cage net.

The Top strap of the side net wraps around the same location as the strap on cage net. This shows both straps looped around the cage.

The lower strap gets wrapped around the side post of the cage just above the top of the tub.

Middle strap of the side net - I placed it between the soft top brackets.

Rear top strap on the side window net pulls back and loops through the top loop in the cage net, though you can't see the loop here. Next, the top strap on the cage net wraps around the cage.

OR... loop the cage top strap through the loop on the side window nets like this.

Middle strap on the back of the side net, passenger side shown, routed outsde the cage. Instructions show routing it inside. I tried it both ways to see what it would look like.

Lower strap. I routed it inside, through the loop, then around the ouside and through the buckle like the instructions show.

Then I switched it to the outside just to see what it looked like.

Once everything is installed and buckled, then go around and shuffle the positions of the straps and tighten as needed until you have everything positioned where you want it.

Once all was said and done, the final resting place of the top net looked like this.

Installing the slip keepers is done like this: Slip the pointed end under half of the clip, the UPPER half...

Rotate it clockwise, then the cut end will end up under the lower half of the clip.

Rotate back counter clockwise then pull the pointy end..

Now slide the clip keeper where needed

I've got the raingler net in miy XJ. I like it alot, especially because I have kids and the back seat is not that high to protect them from cargo in the back. It iis easy to take down in a hurry if you have something big to put in they back. Here is a write-up. Very similar to what was used above.

I've had the Raingler in both my XJs. Decent piece of kit.

It's hard to believe it's been three years ago I installed these nets in my TJ Rubicon.... time has gone by fast.

I still like the nets just as much as the day I installed them. I will have my TJ at Overland Expo 2012, possibly in the vendor area if there's space to park it along side my trailer.
